Service  Assistant-Surgeon Amesbury served in Burmah in 1852-53. Medal. Commanded a Troop of 3rd Oude Irregular Cavalry in all the engagements with the rebels in and near Allahabad, from the 6th June 1857. (Horse shot under him}. For his services was made Acting A. D. C. to General Neill, and thanked by that Officer in Garrison Orders. Raised and horsed the Volunteer Cavalry that was made over to General Havelock by General Neill, and was instrumental in saving the lives of 15 Europeans at Bawanee, on the lines of rail towards Sohunda. Served in Medical Charge of the Bengal Yeomanry Cavalry. Present at the action of the 2nd March 1858, at the attack of Belwar Fort, battle of Amorah 5th March, and action of Thelga 17th April 1858. Mentioned in Regimental Despatches. Present at the action of Amorah, 25th April 1858. Mentioned in the Despatches of Brigadier Rowcroft, 18th April 1858. Present at the capture of Fort Nuggur, and attack on the rebels at Dobureah. Thanked in Regimental Orders, 10th May 1858. Medal.
