Service  Surgeon-Major Batson served with the 36th Native Infantry during the whole Sutlej Campaign. Present at the battle of Alliwal. Brought in the wounded after the action, and deserters of Buddiwal. Medal. Volunteered to carry expresses from Delhi to Meerut on the 11th May 1857. Appointed Field Surgeon to the Army Head Quarters, Delhi Field Force; afterwards appointed to the Medical charge of the Field Depot Hospital at Selimghur, Delhi, with temporary charge of the Superintending Surgeon's duties in addition.
