Service  Lieutenant Blathwayt served with the Army in India under Lord Clyde in 1858-59. Present at the siege and capture of Luoknow in March 1858, and at the taking of Bareilly and the relief of Shahjehanpore in the same year. Served in the Oude Campaign of 1858-59. Medal and Clasp. Served with the China Expeditionary Force. Medal. Also served in the following operations, against the Taiping Rebels, at the capture of stockades at Wong-ka-Dya, 4th April; stockaded village of Chowpoo, 17th April; and stockades near Nezeean, 29th April; at the capture of the walled towns of Kahding, 1st May; Tsingpoo, 12th May; Tsoling, 20th May; stockaded village of Manchioo, 17th May; and repulse of the rebels at Nezeean, 20th May 1862.
