Service  Lieutenant Luard served during the Mutiny, 57, 58. With the Rajpootana Field Force against the insurgents in Malwa, in 57. Present at the affairs of Minbhera, 19th September; with Volunteer Cavalry, Jeerum, 23rd October, as a Volunteer Gunner. Defence of Neemuch Fort, 8th to 22nd November, as a Volunteer Gunner. Served with the Central India Field Force against the rebels, in 58. Present at the siege and capture of Fort Chundehree, 9th to 17th March; siege and capture of Jhansie, from 20th March to 5th April; actions of Kooneh, 7th May; Muttra, 16th May; Gowlowlee, 22nd May; capture of Calpee, 23rd May 58. Medal and Clasp. Volunteered and served throughout the War in China, in 60. Present at the actions of Sinho, Chan-kia-Whan, 18th September; and Tangchow (wounded), 21st September 60. Medal and 2 Clasps. Mentioned in the Despatches of Captain Simpson for gallant and praiseworthy conduct, 18th February 58; specially by Sir Hugh Rose, for useful service and zeal, 23rd May 58; of Sir Hope Grant, 21st September 60.
