Service  Captain Lumsden served as D. A. Q. M. G. at the action of Punjpao, 15th April 52; at Nowadund, Pranghur, Iskakot, and operations in the Ranezee Valley, May 52; at Boree, November 53; at Shah Mooseh Khel, against Momunds (services brought to notice by Colonel Cotton); in Meranzaie Expedition; Cavalry affair at Dursummund, April 55; against the Bussy Khel at Alum, November 55. In Meranzaie and Kooran Expeditions, November 56. (Received special thanks of Local and Supreme Governments.) Served in a special Military Mission to Afghanistan, in 57, 58. (Received the thanks of the Supreme Government.) In July 58 joined Gwalior Force under General Napier. Present at Banode and subsequent pursuit in Central India. Medal. (Especially mentioned.) Accompanied the China Expedition, 60. Present at the battle of Sinho, bombardment of Tongchow, assault and capture of Taku Forts, and advance on Pekin. (Especially mentioned and recommended for Brevet-Majority on promotion to Captain.) Medal and 2 Clasps.
