Service  Assistant-Surgeon OBrien served with the Gwalior Contingent from March 44. In Medical Charge of Field Detachment, engaged in minor affairs in the Narode and Esaughur Districts, in April and May 46, under Captain A. C. Dewar, 1st Cavalry Gwalior Contingent. In the Pahurghur District, in June 49, under Major Parker, 4th Gwalior Contingent, and in the Suhulghur District, from March to June 50, under Command of Captain Raikes, 1st Cavalry Gwalior Contingent; joined the Saugor Garrison 14th September 57, engaged with rebels at Tendokhera, 12th January 58. In Medical Charge of Detachment commanded by Captain Sale, 9th Native Infantry. Served with Central India Field Force, commanded by Sir Hugh Rose, from 18th February to 29th May 58, with the 3rd Bombay Europeans. Present at the battle of Muddenpore, the battle of Betwa, the siege, storm, and capture of Jhansie. In Medical Charge of the left Wing at the battle of Koonch, the storm and capture of Loharee, the various actions before Calpee, and the capture of that place. Disabled by sunstroke at Calpee. Thanked in the Despatch of Colonel Gall, HMs 14th Light Dragoons, Commanding at the storm of Loharee. Medal and Clasp,
