From Private J. Worlock   H.M. 3rd Light Dragoons.

 Wazeepabad April 1st 1852

    Dear Father.

I was very much pleased to receive your letterdated 7th Jan. And it is with much pleasure I sit down to answer it by return of post, I am sorry you were at so much trouble to get the –spurs- and did not suceed after all but however it is of no consequence as the season is over know and I have given great satisfaction to the officers this season I got a European –armourer- to temper a few pair and they andwered very well. Dear Father great alterations within this last six years all got and getting married I cant express myself as I would ‘with’ but I am so pleased to think with the –blessings- of God poor cousin Ann has recovered if you should see her give my best respects and wishing much joy and happiness also the other couples the same I think –Mr.- Fitz. G. Worlock may drop me a line or two occasionally I shall always be proud to hear from any of the family.
I hope please God to spare my life this hot season I shall be able in 12 months time to meet you all at Codrington if I do not volunteer and that I am no very inclined to do at present. I suppose you do not know much about volunteering it is when a Regt. in India is broke up they are always twice as strong as they are at home so if any man will go to any other regt. he receives 10.0.0d for so doing as –the- company –consider- a man that has been in the country for 3 or 4 years to be worth 3 recruits coming from England liable to all sorts of diseases thank God I am enjoying excellent health at present and I hope you are all enjoying the same –blessing- the Rajah of the –Bermise- country is rather inclined to be troublesome but I hope that will be all settled by the –next- cold season I begin to be anxious to see the green fields of – England once again so nothing more at present.
Wishing you all much joy and happiness
and hope to meet --- Grandmother mother and
sisters in fact all once again in the old England.
       I remain
       Your affectionate son
         John Phillips Worlock

You did not tell me –Betsy- husbands name
