PCC adminstrations

The records of Administrations from the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. They cover the period from 1384 to 1858. The Prerogative Court of Canterbury administered wealthy individuals with assets in the South of England and much of Wales.

The references PROB/6 are to records located in The National Archives (TNA) in Kew. Although the copies of PCC Wills are today available ‘on-line at the TNA Web-site, ( http://www.documentsonline.pro.gov.uk/wills.asp ) those of the Administrations are not. Further, the references IR/26 are to the Inland Revenue series, which cover liability to Death Taxes and which usually include details of legatees, are also available for consultation at TNA in Kew.
