Description  Bonnaud and three wealthy Englishmen built an indigo factory in the Maldah district, post 1792-93. Resided in a garden house at Hazinngar in Chandernagore. Established a large canvas and twine factory on the Rue de Paris in Chandernagore. Joined the Bankipore indigo concern, 1814. Proprietor of Nayahatti Indigo Concern in the district of Jessore for some time. Managing proprietor of the large indigo concern of Kalna in Burdwan, including the Mirzapore Indigo Factory not far from Krishnaghur. Terminated his connection with the Kalna Concern, 1819, having, that year made 1,400 maunds of indigo. However, the principal proprietor of Kalna, Edward Majoribanks, was heavily involved [i.e., in debt], having mortgaged the property to Messrs. Fairlie Fergusson and Co. This misfortune was said to have hastened Bonnaud’s death, which occurred in 1821, at the age of 84 years. Left two sons by his second marriage, William and Peter. Louis’ wife died in 1860, aged 93 years.
Indexer  A maund was a measure of weight, containing 82-2/7 lbs. in Bengal.
