Description  Eventually retired to Cheltenham, where he bought a house with a good garden attached; “passed the time looking after the fruit which he grew in great abundance.” First wife was a Miss Stalkartt, related to the old gentleman [John “Mad Jack” Stalkartt] who lived at Goosery, near Calcutta. Second wife was a Miss Johnstone, whose brothers were in business in Calcutta. Sons, John and Marmaduke, followed their father’s footsteps in the indigo line; the sons had retired to England by c.1905. Son by his second wife was an officer in the R.E.’s [Royal Engineers] c.1905. Gale lived in Pundoul House, Lordship Lane, Norwood [Surrey]. Died at Cheltenham.
