Body of text  WILLIAM CAMPBELL SOMERVILLE, born 23rd February 1907 at Bonnyrigg, son of Alexander Somerville and Jessie Campbell; educated at Bonnyrigg Public School 1913-8, Edinburgh Royal High School 1918-24, University of Edinburgh 1924-30, Bsc (1st Class Hons Chemistry 1928), PhD (1930); missionary in Scottish Church College, Calcutta 1930-7; Edinburgh New College 1935-7; licensed by Presbytery of Edinburgh 1937; ordained as missionary by same Presbytery 9th May 1937; continued in Scottish Church College to 1941; service in Indian Army Ordnance Corps1941-6; appointed General Secretary National Bible Society of Scotland 1st January 1947. Married 15th May 1934, Edith Rae, born 1st January 1906, daughter of Frederick Henry Taylor and Rosa Mary Nightingale, and has issue, Margaret Jean Christine, born 4th June 1937; Dorothy Anne, born 29th August 1940; Janet Elizabeth, born 21st July 1947. Publications – 'A First Introduction to the New Testament', London 1946; 'From Iona to Dunblane', Edinburgh 1948.
