At a meeting of the Coopers Hill Society in 1959 the lack of any biographical record of students admitted to the Royal Indian Engineering College, Coopers Hill, was discussed. This register is an attempt to complete a record. It may be regarded as an appendix to ‘A Short History of the Royal Indian Engineering College, Coopers Hill’ by J.G.P. Cameron, C.I.E., issued by the Coopers Hill Society for private circulation in 1960.

The names of the students admitted have been taken from the calendars published annually by authority and preserved in the library of the India Office, Whitehall. The biographical details have been compiled mainly from information in the magazines mentioned on page 28 of Cameron’s History.

Engineer for irrigation and drainage, Delhi Coronation Durbar 1911 (MVO). Appointed Home Dept. Gov't India for selection of site for new capital Delhi and regulation of river Jumna at Delhi. Services lent to Siam for preparation of irrigation scheme Menam Chao Phraya Valley. Chief engineer and Secretary Gov't Punjab Irrigation Branch 1916. Inspector general for irrigation in India 1917. Reported on irrigation development in Mesopotamia 1917.

Member of Council Institution of Civil Engineers 1918-20. First President Institution of Engineers (India). Member American Society of Civil Engineers. Fellow Royal Geographical Society. Sir Thomas Ward had an exceptionally wide experience of irrigation problems and was called upon to advise in many parts of the world.
