At his seat, Hall Barn Park, in his 75th year. Younger brother of Sir William Ouseley, the eminent Oriental scholar. They were the sons of Capt. Ralph Ouseley, thought to be of Connaught, who settled in Limerick and died in 1803. In 1787 he went from Bordeaux to America and then to China and the East Indies, where he obtained ""a situation"". In 1810 made Ambassador to Persia. In 1811-12 the Rev. Henry Martyn was under his protection while translating the New Testament into Persian. He married in 1806 Harriet Georgiana, daughter of John Whitelocke, esq. by whom he had 2 sons and 3 daughters. Created a baronet in 1808. See also June 1845 issue, page 665 for details of will] |
