Born London 17 Sept 1773, eldest son of Frederick, 5th Earl of Carlisle by Lady Margaret Caroline Leveson-Gower, 2nd dau. of Granville 1st Marquess of Stafford. In Feb 1806 became Member of the Board of Control for the Affairs of India. Reelected to Parliament in Dec 1806 ""but when his friends quitted office he of course resigned his place at the India Board.""]
