In March 1823 in the Larne, 18 he went to the East Indies where until the Burmese War in 1825 he was the senior officer of the naval forces, ""the order of Commodore Grant being that none should interfere with or supersede him."" He led the attack at Rangoon. When relieved by Capt. Chads in Sept 1824 ""he had lost nearly the whole of his ship's company"".
