He was the eldest son of John Stonhouse, esq. of the Hon. East India Company's civil service in Bengal, (younger son of the Rev. Sir James the tenth baronet,) by the daughter of Richard Stephens, esq. Sir John was also formerly a civil servant of the East India Company on their Bengal establishment, and was some time registrar of the Zilla court at Ghazeepore. He succeeded his uncle as Baronet in the year 1810. Having died unmarried he is succeeded by his brother, now Sir Timothy Vansittart Stonhouse, who is also in the civil service of the Hon. East India Company, on the Madras establishment; he married Mary-Diana eldest daughter of the Rev. George William Sturt, Rector of Long Critchill, Dorsetshire, and has issue. |
