Retired from the EIC service as a Major General 1 Sept 1822. ""Having been advanced to the chief command of the army in Persia, he was promoted to the local rank of Major-General in H.M. Army in Asia, Dec. 21, 1835"". Made a baronet, 1836. Was seven foot tall, called by the Persians ""The great English soldier"". Married in 1822 Coutts, the dau. of John Trotter, esq. of Dyrham Park, Hertfordshire. 3 sons & 5 daus.] |
