Charles John Hoffmeister, R.N. He was born at Portsmouth, and entered the navy in 1837 on board the Victory, the flag-ship at that port. He served as midshipman in the Revenge 78, Belvidera 42, Fly 18, Quail cutter, Pembroke 74, and Melville 74. He was made Lieutenant 1841, and served in the Impregnable 104, the Belleisle troop ship in China, and as first of the Amazon, in China. |
