At Alnwick, aged 76. 2nd son of John Burrell, esq. of Littlehoughton, Northumberland, by Barbara Peareth of Newcastle. Born at Longhoughton, same county, 26 Feb. 1777. Ensign 1797. As a colonel, was posted to Ceylon, 1836-40, as commandant at Colombo and Trincomalee, with the local rank of Major General in 1837. He married 1st Miss Scott, dau. of Sir John Scott, Kt. of Ireland and 2nd Marianne Theresa, dau. of Rev. Dr Thomas of Claydagh, co. Carlow, and sister to Major-Gen. Henry Thomas. By his second wife 2 sons & 2 daus. The eldest son Henry Duncan was a Lieut. 18th Royal Irish, served 9 years in China, returned to England and died 31 Dec 1848 aged 28. The second son, Graham, Lieut. Royal Artillery, died at sea on his second voyage to Ceylon, 18 March 1847 aged 25.
