Sir Samuel Auchmuty. Born at New York in 1774. joned the 22nd Dragoons in India shortly after peace between England and France, in 1806 took command of the subsidiary force in Hyderabad. ""Two dangerous mutinies in the Madras army occurred during Lieut.-Colonel Montresor's command at this station, and were suppressed in a great measure by the steps he pursued.""
