Entered cavalry as Cornet, 6th Dragoon Guards, 1804. ""He was employed on the staff at the attack and capture of Java, in 1811, including the attack of the outpost near Weltevreden, and the storming of the lines of Cornelis."" Married 14 Jan. 1810 Anne Harvey, dau. of John Petrie, esq. formerly of Gatton, Surrey. 4 sons & 5 daus., including Pierce Edward Gilbert, in the Bengal service, who married in 1836 Sophia, dau. of Major Shaw, EIC army, and has issue; and Reynell George, in the Bengal Cavalry] |
