""Captain Latter having obtained a direct appointment to Bengal, went out in 1836, at the age of 19, a finished scholar and classic, having been educated under his maternal uncle, the Rev. Charles Jeffreys, 2nd Wrangler and Fellow of St John's College, Cambridge. Became expert in Burmese. Text of a letter to his mother in the Burmese War is quoted. Murdered while asleep. Married in Dec. 1846 his first cousin, Charlotte Elizabeth Law, 3rd dau. of Francis Law, esq., formerly Bengal CS, and late of Bedgbury Park, Kent, by whom he had one daughter, Dolores Charlotte, both of whom he survived] |
