He was the fourth son of the late Thomas Riddell, esq. Camieston, Roxburghshire. As an officer of the 60th Bengal Native Infantry, he served in the Affgahn war; after which he was appointed to the command of one of the police battalions raised in the north-west provinces; upon the reduction of which he became joint magistrate at Cawnpore. He married Ellen, dau. of Capt. Beckett, of the Bengal Army, by whom he has left one son. |
