Inscription  Sacred to the memory of French Gray, late Captain in His Majest's 1st (sic) Ceylon Regt., aged 39 years, who departed this life at Matura on the 28th April, A.D. 1818, in consequence of a fever contracted at Kattragam while in the zealous discharge of his Public Duty.....
