CommentPlease Note that these men are from 1st Troop, 1st Brigade Bengal Horse Artillery, who died during the Insurrection and during the Retreat from Kabul during the 1st Afghan War. The data are taken from a memorial erected in Dum Dum in 1844.

The list totals 99 soldiers but only the Irishment have been extracted and supplemented by further details taken from further records located in the India Office Records, plus Leslie Rogers own investigation of their stated places of origin. This list of 43 Irish casualties may be incomplete as the Dum Dum Memorial also contains a small number of soldiers with Irish surnames who could not be found in the IOR. The parishes of BIRTH are Irish Civil parishes unless otherwise stated in the final record.

An extended list of Irish Soldiers who died during the Retreat from Kabul between November 1841 and January 1842.

Note that these men were in the 1st Troop, 1st Brigade Bengal Horse Artillery. Their names feature on a Memorial erected at Dum Dum in 1844. Only the Irishmen have been extracted from a list of 99 soldiers by Leslie Rogers (Dun Laoghaire) in pursuit of their places of origin. The list is not therefore complete and extra records have been added as found in the India Office Records.
