Entry  On the 21st Dec 1817, in the Camp on the Sipoora, aged 29, Thomas Hancorne, Lieutenant and Adjutant of the Madras European Regiment, son of the Rev. Thomas. Hancorne, ot Newcastle, Glamorganshire. He had distinguished himself for his abilities and acquisition of the Hindoostannee Language, and the usual honorary reward of 300l[sic] was adjudged to him by the Right Honourable the Governor in Council, the 25th Nov. 1816. He was of niild and amiable manners, had gained the esteem of his brother officers, was regular and, attentive to his regimental duties, arid was a most affectionate and dutiful son—and all the parent could wish. His death was occasioned by the wounds which he received in the action against Holchar, in which his regiment was particularly engaged.
