Summary Remarks  The Case for the Defence of Mr Lewis Da Costa. Accused of sending grain ships to the French at Madeira. He had been a constant inhabitant in this Town for twenty years. At one point he had 14 vessels, ten that could go to sea, which were used to ship grain and other provisions to Madras. His ships include: Ship Alfred, Ship Essex, Sloop Mary, Snow Polly, Snow Friends, Snow Flora, Sloop Chinsurat, Snow Elizabeth and Sloop Dolphin and Snow Nelly. The attorney for Mr Belli took out a writ for 15,000 Arcot Rupees for a Bond, Mr Huzzorimal took a writ for 1,000 current Rupees, and Mr Oldham for 1500 Sicca Rupees. Mr Brix is his Advocate and Mr Eaton his Attorney. Messrs John Blyth and Gabriel Virgnin, had interests in Mr Lewis Da Costa's ships Essex and Alfred, bound for Madras. Mr Virgnin to be Bond holder whilst Mr Da Costa is in prison. Messrs George Gearmain and John de Colt his attorneys by a special power.
