Mutiny Service  Assistant Secretary to the Government, N[orth] W[est] P[rovince]. A small body of Mounted Volunteers from among these compelled to take refuge in the fort at Agra was raised by Major Trendergast, of which Oldfield was a member. On July 5, on the approach of the mutinous Brigade from Neemuch, a force moved out to attack them. During the engagement which took place near Shahgunj on the road to Futtehpore Seecree, Prendergast's troop, consisting of twenty sabres, heroically charged the rebel Cavalry, three hundred in number. In this charge Oldfield was dangerously wounded, being shot through the chest at close quarters, and was laid up for many weeks. Of the twenty, five were killed and nine wounded.
