Comment	Index of names from 'A Hand Book to St Mary's Church, Fort St. George, Madras', written by the Rev. Charles Herbert Malden, Canon of St George's Cathedral, Madras and Garrison Chaplain, 1893-4 and 1901-6. The transcription is of The Old Tombstones \| Outside St Mary's Church. The other memorials recorded in the book are of those inside the church. The book contains a useful checklist (as at 1905) of the church's registers from 1680. The book is in the library of the East India Club in St James's Square, London SW1Y 4LH.

	Inscription	Here lyeth the body of NATHANIEL FOXCROFT, son of George Foxcroft, Agent and Governor of Fort St George. He waas borne into this world on 6th of September 1635 and translated into a better to the resurrection of the just, the 26th of October 1670, after he had finished his pilgrimage on the earth 35 yeares, haveing alwaies exhibited the honour due from a dear and dutifull son to his parents, and by his universal obliging and ingenious conversation obtained a good report and left a good name with all men. A good name is better than a precious oyntment and the day of death then the day of one's birth. Eccle.7,1. The memory of ye just is blessed. Psa. 10. 7. The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. Ps. 112. 6.
	Comment by Rev. Charles Herbert Malden	Son of Governor Foxcroft who was deposed and imprisoned by Sir Edward Winter in September 1665. He was released and reinstated in August 1668. His son Nathaniel died just as they were about to leave India together.
