Taken prisoner on retreat from CabuL Commanded Field Force for the relief of Arrah, and defeated the rebels under Koer Sing, 2nd and 12th August 57. Brevet-Colonel and C.B. Defeated and destroyed a Force of Oude rebels at Koordun Puttee, 11th September. Commanded a heavy gun battery in the actions of Mungulwar, Alum Bagh, and first relief of Lucknow under Major-General Sir E Havelock. Was Brigadier of Artillery and Cavalry under Sir Jas. Outram, at Lucknow and Alum Bagh, and commanded the Artillery Division at the latter, during the final operations before Lucknow, under His Excellency Sir C. Campbell, G.C.B., March 58. Medal and 2 Clasps.
