Service  Ensign P. Gill, V. C., was present at the battle of Sobraon, 10th Feburary 46; on service to Kot Kangra, with Brigadier Wheelers Force, May and June 46. Present at the reduction of the Fort of Rungur Nugul, reduction of the Fort of Kallahwallah, and assault of the Dullah Heights, under Brigadier Wheeler, 48, 49. Present with the Regiment of Khelat-i-Ghilzie, in the operations against the Husseinjai and Akojai Tribes, on the Black Mountain, in December 52. Present on Field Service with the Moradabad Levy, Trans-Gogra, Oudh, from 3rd April 59 until the termination of the Frontier operations. Is in possession of the Sutlej and Punjab Medals ; also the Victoria Cross, for highly distinguished conduct during the Mutiny of the Native Troops at Benares, on the 4th June 57, when he saved the life of Major Barrett, 37th Native Infantry, and the Quarter-Master Serjeant of the 25th Native infantry, doing duty with the Regiment of Loodianah; also rescued lieutenant Brown, Pension Pay Master, when surrounded by marauders, who were attempting to plunder the treasure of the office. Medal
