Service  Lieutenant Macaulay served with HMs 5th Fusiliers in the Oude Campaign of 58, 59. Present with that Regiment at the fall of Fort " Amathee," 11th October 58 ; and at that of Shunkerpore, 15th October 58; and at the battle of " Doondeakhera," on the 24th November 58. Present with that Regiment at the capture of the Fort " Omeriah," 2nd December 58. Served with the 1st Sikh Cavalry through the hot weather Campaign of 59, Trans-Gogra, Oude. Medal. Served with the 1st Sikh Cavalry throughout the China Expedition of 60. Present at the action of "Singho", on 12th August 60. Capture of the Taku Forts, on 21st August 60. Actions of "Chankiawun," 18th September; "Palichas," on 21st September; and capture and occupation of Pekin, on 13th October 61. Wounded severely at the action of "Singho," on 12th August 60. Medal for Indian Rebellion, and Medal for China War, 60. Clasps for "Taku Forts and Pekin." Mentioned in list of Officers of HMs Indian Forces recommended to favorable notice by Lieutenant-General Sir Hope Grant for their services in China.
