Served during the Maharatta War, including the storm and capture of the enemys guns and camp, 16th December, and city of Nagpore, 24th December 17; siege and surrender of Asseerghur, 19; Lamba, 23; and served throughout the Campaign in Affghanistan, 39, 40, 41, and 42, including the assault and capture of Ghuznee, 39. Medal. Commanded the 43rd Light Infantry at the repulse of the enemy at Candahar (slightly wounded, 29th May 42), and storm and capture of Istaliff. Medal. Commanded the 43rd Native Infantry at the battle of Maharajpore. Bronze Star and Lieutenant- Colonel. Campaign on the Sutlej: present at the action of Sobraon. Medal and C.B. Commanded the 72nd Native Infantry at the 2nd siege and capture of Mooltan, led the Right Centre Column at the storming of the suburbs of Mooltan. (Wounded.) Medal.
