 | Surname | Remington | | | First Name(s) | A G | | | Rank | Lieutenant | | | Regiment | late 12th Native Infantry | | | Commissions | Ensign, 13 Feb 53 / Lieut, 23 Nov 56 | | | Service | Lieutenant Remington was present with the Right Wing of the 12th Native Infantry at its mutiny at Nowgong, on the 10th of June 57, and after wandering about for 26 days, during which time the greater part of his party died from exposure and exhaustion, eventually reached Nagode in safety. On the 26th of July accompanied Major Ellis, Political Assistant for Bundlecund, to the Port of Kulingur, to remonstrate with the Rajah, who had placed his Troops in the Fort in disobedience to the orders of Government. The Rajah proving friendly, the Political Assistant left Lieutenant Remington in charge of the Port and Rajahs Troops. Continued to hold this position entirely alone for the space of eleven months, when the arrival of General Whitlocks Column at Banda had rendered his presence there no longer necessary. During the above period, the Fort was besieged by the Dinapore mutineers under Koer Sing, on the 11th September, for three days, who ultimately left for Nagode, and inducing the 50th Native Infantry at that station to join them, cut off all communication between the Fort and surrounding country. Was also constantly threatened with the rebel Porces under the Nawab of Banda and Narain Rao of Kirwee, and detected a plot on the part of a portion of the Garrison, to let a party of rebels enter the Fort. Afterwards served in the Police, and effectually disarmed the Banda District. |
