Being on Staff employ, joined and marched with his Regiment to Bareilly, where it was sent to quell the insurrection, in April 16. Served in Afghanistan, 38 to 41. Commanded the 4th Brigade of the Army of the Indus. Present at the storm and capture of Ghuznee, succeeding Sir R. Sale in the Command of the Fortress; caused the capture of Hyder Khan, the Governor of the Fortress, and son of Dost Mahomed Khan, for which he received the thanks of the Commander-in-Chief. Medal and, G.B. Afterwards commanded the Shahs Troops. Ind Class Dooranee Order. In 42 commanded the 4th Brigade of the Army of Reserve. |
