Service  Surgeon Ross served in Medical Charge of the 71st, 4th Cavalry, and 4th Company, 6th Battalion Artillery, with No. 19 Light Field Battery, in General Wheelers Brigade, during the Punjab Campaign. Present at the capture of Forts Rungul Nungul and Moraree; went with a guard of 100 men to Kohat to take Medical Charge of 1st Punjab Cavalry, on Field Service there, in February 50. Served under Captain Coke in his expedition to Meeranzaie, on the Cabul Frontier, in the autumn of 51; had additional charge of the 1st Punjab Infantry, during the operations in the Ranezaie Valley, under Sir C. Campbell, in the hot weather of 52. Present at the capture of Pranghur, Skakote, and Erothal. In Medical Charge of 1st Punjab Cavalry, and with general Medical Superintendence of the Brigade under Major Coke, at the affairs of Kohat and Kohtul, in November 53. In Medical Charge of a Battery, Royal Artillery, and 3 Companies, HMs Infantry, at the capture of villages near Allahabad, under Brigadier Campbell, in December 57. Joined the Army under Sir C. Campbell, Commander-in-Chief at Cawnpore. Was present in Medical Charge of the Cavalry on the Field, in the charge which closed the action on the Kala Nuddee, near Futtehghur, in January 58. Punjab Medal. Mutiny Medal. Received the thanks of Government.
