Service  Major Smith served during the Sutlej Campaign, 45, 46: present in the actions of Moodkee, Ferozeshuhur, Alliwal, and Buddiwal. Medal and 2 Clasps. Present at the affair in the Kohat Pass, under Brigadier Coke, in 53. Served with the Sheoranee Expedition, under Brigadier Hodgson; and with the Force under General Chamberlain, in the Meeranzaie Valley, in 55. Commanded the Pathan Ressala of Sooltan Jan, during the Mutiny of 57, 58. Served in the Mozuffernuggur District, previous to, and after the fall of Delhi. Engaged on several occasions. (Severely wounded at Thanna Baon, on the 18th September 57.) Served as Orderly Officer to Brigadier Coke with the Roorkee Field Force. Mentioned in Brigadier Cokes Despatch of the action of Nugeena. Joined the Roorkee Field Porce with his Ressala, and present at the action of Bareilly, 5th May 58. Served in the Philibheet District under Brigadier Coke. Medal. Promoted to the rank of Brevet-Major for services during the Mutiny.
