Service  Assistant-Surgeon Thornton served with a Detachment of HMs 5th Fusiliers, at the relief of Arrah (2nd August), and at the capture of Jugdespore, 11th August 57. Was present with a Force under the Command of Brigadier Wilson, at the action of Soorajpore, 18th October; proceeded with Major Barnstons Force to Alum Bagh, and served with the Garrison of that post from 25th October to 27th November 57; was then attached to HMs 90th Light Infantry, and was present with that Regiment at several engagements with the enemy near Alum Bagh, and at the assault and capture of Lucknow, in March 58. Served with the 1st European Bengal Fusiliers at various operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Durriabad. Medal and Clasps.
