Member of Parliament for Lincoln 1754-1768 in the year 1760. He for a time conducted the operations at the Siege of Pohdighery in which he was severely wounded. He served under General Draper at Manilla in 1762 and was ADC to the King in 1769. He (with Sir Philip Francis and General Claverins) assumed office as a member of the Supreme Council in India October 20th 1774. Died at Hugli September 25th 1776. This grave and that of his wife, the Lady Anne Monson having remained nameless for one hundred and thirty two year. This tablet has been placed here by the Government of Bengal at the bequest of the Calcutta Historical Society in the year 1908. |
