| Surname | Parker | | Rank/ occupation | Captain | | Unit | HMS Intrepid | | Death date | 1797 | | Place of death | Passage from the East Indies | | Source | Gentleman's Magazine | | Date | Dec 1797 | | Page number | 1072 | | Detail | Capt. Parker, of Heavitree, near Exeter, commander of his Majesty's ship Intrepid, of 64 guns. On that ship's returning from the East Indies, with the Van Tromp, as convoy to a fleet of merchantmen, by a sudden heel of the ship, he fell overboard into the sea; and a gale of wind blew so strong at that time, that he sunk before any assistance could be rendered to him. Thus perished a worthy man and a deserving officer, leaving a disconsolate widow and several children to lament his loss, as well as every other person who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. He was brother to Vice-admiral Sir William Parker, now at Lisbon. |
