Served in Afghan War, 1880-1(medal). Commd. R.A. Burrnah expdy. force 1885-6, reconnoitred the main line of advance and planned the campaign on Mandalay, equipped the Land Siege Train of 16 guns for service on the water in 5 vessels, known by the Army as Mother Carey's Chickens, and it was this overpowering force of artill. fire at the battle of Mingyan on the 24th Nov.1885 that forced the surrender of the Ava forts. Burmah 1886-7, medal for Burmah, and received the thanks of the Govt. of India, Ret. p. 1891. Brookdale Rd. Portswood, Southampton. United Service Club.
