Body of text  GEORGE COOK, born 11 June, 1812, son of George C, DD, minister of Laurencekirk, afterwards Professor of Moral Philosophy, University of St. Andrew's, educated at Laurencekirk and University of St Andrew's; MA; licensed by Presbytery of St. Andrew's in 1836; assistant at Kemback, 1836-8; ordained chaplain at Bombay in 1841; admitted minister of Bathgate 9th November, 1861; translated and admitted 16th May, 1867; DD (St Andrew's 1872) ; Moderator of Assembly in 1876; died 29th February, 1888. He was the last survivor of a worthy family of brothers, and served the Church long and well, both abroad and at home. He married 16th June, 1842, Jane Halkett (died 12th November, 1886), daughter of Colonel Robert Pattullo of Balhouffie, Fife and had issue- Charlotte Stewart, born 7th November, 1834; George, minister of Longformacus; Emily, born 3rd April, 1848 (married Alexander Irvine Robertson, DD minister of Clackmannan); Henry Shank, born and died 1854; Diana (twin) born 1854, died 1855.
