Body of text  McFARLANE, JAMES RUTHVEN, born Crathie, 8th March 1819, son of Alexander M, minister of that parish; educated at Grammar School and King's College, Aberdeen; MA (March 1833); licensed by Presbytery of Kincardine O'Neil; appointed to Indian chaplaincy (Madras) 26th March 1849; senior chaplain in 1866; died 6th March that year. He married 29th April 1858, Laura Chase (born 2nd December 1835, died 11th December 1905), and had issue ­ Georgiana, born 15th September 1860, died 10th October 1923; Ruthven, born 12th May 1862; Aylmer Alexander, born 26th January 1864; Morgan Chase (posthumous) born 9th May 1866.
