Founded the Ruskin Reading Guild in 1887. Married 5th December 1893, Elizabeth Jane Hutton, missionary, Old Calabar, and has issue - William Hutton, MA, born 16th October 1894; Margaret Isabella Hutton, born 11th May 1896 (married HA Bignold, BSc, Alberta, Canada); George Hall, born 31st December 1899 ; James David, banker, born 6th July 1901; Gertrude Mary, born 12th August 1903, died 19th August 1904; Mabel Elizabeth Corsar, Ministry of Labour, Edinburgh, born 6th June 1905.
