Inscription  Sacred to the memory of Ensign Lauderdale Hay, 39th Regiment, M.N.I., son of Rear Admiral Hay and Mary Stewart, his wife, born at Belton East, Lothian N.B., 31t October 1829, died 21t September 1851. To the inexpressible grief of his parents, and the many friends he has, in the prime of life, left to deplore his loss. ""The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord."" He was beloved by his brother officers who have erected this monument to his memory.
