Service  Major Rothney served during the Sutlej Campaign, 45, 46; with Colonel Mackesons Force against the Hussunzaies, in 52. Commanded the 4th Sikh Infantry in charge of a chain of outposts in Tharrawaddy, in Pegu, in 54, and engaged several times against the rebel leader Goung Gee. Present at Loodianah, 8th June 57, and held the Town and Fort in check, and protected the Cantonment with the main body of the 4th Sikh Infantry; afterwards pursued the mutineers with Major Olpherts Column. Joined the Delhi Field Force, 23rd June 57, and commanded the 4th Sikh Infantry throughout the siege and assault of Delhi, and present in several other engagements in and near Delhi. Medal and Clasp. Mentioned in the Despatch of Brigadier W. Jones, 17th September 57. Promoted to the rank of Brevet-Major for service in the siege of Delhi. Commanded the 4th Sikh Infantry, with General Chamberlains Force, against the Cabul Khel Wuzeerees, in 59, and was present at the affair of Maidanee, 22nd December 59. Commanded the Huzara Goorkha Battalion, with General Chamberlains Force, against the Mahsood Wuzeerees, in 60. Present at the repulse of the night attack on the camp at Palooseen, 23rd April 60, and at the forcing of the Burrara Pass, 4th May 60. Mentioned in Brigadier Chamberlains Despatch.
