Register Entry  On the 17th February killed in action near Hydrabad whilst charging with the regiment Brevet Captain William Cookson Adjutant 9th Regiment Sengal Light Cavalry eldest son of the late Major General George Cookson of the Royal Artillery. As a friend and gallant soldier he was beloved by his brother officers and the men of the regiment and his loss will be long and deeply deplored by them. In the various relationships of private life as father husband son and brother he had few equals and to his family and relatives his loss is irreparable
