Born 18 Feb 1755, fifth son of John Cockerell of Bishop's Hull, Somerset, Esq.; went to Bengal in 1776, to Surveyor's office; made postmaster general of India in 1804; returned to England in 1806. Then an India agent, merchant and banker. Married, 1st, Calcutta, 11 March 1789, Maria Tryphena daughter of Sir Charles William Blunt, Bt. and 2nd, 13 Feb 1809, the Hon. Harriet Rushout]
