Detail  [Pages 318-319. At Castle Hill, Ealing, aged 88. Entered the service in 1775 as Ensign in the 17th Foot. In 1809 he became Major General and was appointed to the staff in India. ""On his passage there from the Cape he was again taken prisoner, in the company's ship Wyndham, after a severe action, by a French squadron in the Mozambique channel, and carried to the Isle of France, where, after being confined for two months, he was exchanged, and sailed for Calcutta."" Was second in command under Sir Samuel Auchmuty in the expedition against Java. He then commanded in Mysore, and returned to England in June 1815]
