Detail  [At his seat, Everton House, Huntingdonshire, aged 73. Born 13 Oct 1774 to Godfrey Thornton, esq. of Moggerhanger House, Bedfordshire, a Director of the Bank of England, by Mary dau. of Thomas Littledale esq. of Rotterdam. Assumed name of Astell in 1807, it having been the name of his uncle William, who died without issue. Elected director of the EIC in 1800, and by far the senior member. ""He has frequently filled the chair"". Colonel of the Royal East India Volunteers. Married 15 July 1800 Sarah, only dau. of John Harvey, esq. of Ickwellbury, Bedfordshire, and Finningley Park, Yorkshire. 4 sons and 4 daus.]
